Questions and answers

Questions people ask

What is tempchat.cool?

A free group chat room that is encrypted in your browser and deletes itself. You make a room, share the link, and chat.

Can you read my messages?

No. They are encrypted with a key that only exists in the part of the link after the #, and browsers never send that part to us.

Do I need an account, an app or a phone number?

No to all three.

How many people can join?

Up to 10 in a free room.

How long does a room last?

You choose 1, 24 or 36 hours. The countdown starts when the first person joins. A room nobody joins is deleted after 7 days.

What if someone gets hold of the link?

Anyone with the full link can join and read the chat. Add a password for rooms that matter, share the link carefully and press Delete now if it leaks.

Can new people read what was said before they joined?

Yes. The room keeps the last 1,000 messages until it ends, and new people can read them.

Is it anonymous?

It is private and needs no account, but we do not promise anonymity. See the page on anonymous group chat.

Do you keep my IP address?

We do not log or store IP addresses. Cloudflare, which carries our traffic, processes them to deliver pages.

Can I send photos or files?

Not yet. Rooms are text-only for now.

Who is behind it?

The makers of temp.cool, the self-destructing secret links.

How do I report a room?

Email abuse@tempchat.cool. If you can, include the room address (without the key) and what is wrong.
